Dit is het enige schilderij van mijzelf, gemaakt naar aanleiding van de dood van mijn vader, toen ik 17 jaar oud was (en nog "Machiel" heette). Ik beschouw het als mislukt. / This is the only painting by myself, made on the occasion of my father's death, when i was 17 years old (and still called "Machiel"). I consider it a failure. Door foto's van Michelangelo's De Schepping van Adam begon ik zelf ook wat beeldend na te denken over die myte en de daaraan ten grondslag liggende (en liegende) androcentristisch-antropocentristische ideologie. / Because of pictures of Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam i started to think about that myth and the andocentrist-anthropocentrist ideology which lies --in two senses of the word-- at its root in a somewhat pictorial way myself too.
